Q+A with Jara

WHERE YOU ARE FROM IN THE USA?
Boca Raton, Florida

WHERE YOU CURRENTLY ARE BASED? WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE?
Copenhagen, Denmark. As a day job my main expertise is in social media management/marketing & I also run my blog Girl Meets Dane

WHAT BROUGHT YOU OVERSEAS?
I had been coming to Denmark for over 10 years now to visit my old Au Pair and always loved the country. So in 2015 when I decided to take a three month
“life break” it only made sense to come here. Didn’t expect to find love in a country I loved. I relocated to Denmark full time in 2017 after meeting my now husband only days after arriving on that break in 2015.

DID YOU STUDY ABROAD IN THE PAST (OR PRESENT)? IF SO WHAT PROGRAM AND WHERE?
I did not study abroad in college or high school. It was something I always wanted to do but never actually did. My high school did a have a program called
“interim” which was experimental learning for two weeks. My sophomore year I did an interim in Spain so that was the closet I got to a study abroad. I also took my Birthright to Israel in 2015 as a part of the same “life break."

ANY WORDS OF WISDOM FOR FUTURE YOUNG AMERICANS?
Don
’t be afraid to leave your comfort zone. This is something I am still working through in a day to day in a foreign country, but taking the step to leave your home is a big one! You won’t fit in overnight, learn the language in a day or have an idea of where you are going later that week but take the small victories when they come.
